CBT for Depression

Does CBT work for depression?

CBT aims to stop negative cycles by breaking down overwhelming problems that make you feel bad, anxious or scared so that they become more manageable. CBT can help you change your negative thought patterns and improve the way you feel.

Symptoms of depression:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Feeling sad much of the time – with such bad mood swings that you cannot function
  • Feeling hopeless and unworthy
  • Getting angry at people for no particular reason
  • Feeling there is no way out– despair
  • Suicidal thoughts in severe cases

If you have these symptoms regularly – finding it hard to get up and live life as you want to because you feel powerless – I can offer CBT therapy [link to CBT therapy section] to help.

How to treat depression

My first step is to establish a safe, non-judgmental environment for us to get to know each other so I can be sure I am the right therapist to help you.

I will help you identify your recurring negative and irrational thoughts, and look at how they affect you, your body and your behaviour, then replace them with healthier, positive thoughts.

The way you behave has an impact on other people, so you will find it very useful to learn how to find these patterns in yourself and give yourself the freedom to make choices and act positively.
